I think you guys mentioned this movie briefly in your Danny Leiner episode, but an interesting Seann William Scott movie is Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach. The movie itself is pretty bad, maybe terrible. But rarely have I seen an actor put a film on his back the way Scott does here, with a few scenes being simply heroic.

Also, to me the most bizarre movie cluster has always been 1997′s Prefontaine and 1998′s Without Limits–two films about distance runner Steve Prefontaine. How did that happen?

You are right, we did mention Balls Out. I haven’t seen the movie, but based on your comments I’m kind of split. It sounds pretty bad, but I’d be kind of curious to see Seann William Scott if his performance is the only thing carrying it.

And that is a fantastic example of a movie cluster. You are right, it is a pretty weird one. My suspicion is that a few were working together on one and then split into two groups. It is hard for me to believe
two separate and unrelated groups decided to write that story at the exact same time.

Man, the Truman Show is one hell of a movie. The way that called reality tv is incredible. I honestly think that if there hadn’t have been that movie we might have actually had a baby subjected to that already.

Yeah, the Truman Show was amazing…it is a shame it didn’t get more awards at the time. Definitely in the discussion of Jim Carrey’s best performances. You are right, it might have delayed it happening to a baby…but honestly I think it is just a matter of having the technology to make it happen.
