Gotta give a shout out to the miniseries The Day After. I bet if you watched it now it would be super cheesy, but it was a big deal when it was originally on TV.
Also, if you haven’t seen The Quiet Earth, that is a terrific last-man-on-earth film. Highly recommended.

I love a good apocalypse story. My personal favorite is Night of the Living Dead.

In regards to the Walking Dead, I really think it’s gone down hill since firing Frank Darabount. The only standout episode of this last season was the midseason finale. If you look into it, Darabount had a hell of a story planned regarding a flashback episode with the soldier in the tank from the pilot. He planned to show Atlanta going to hell during the initial outbreak, but of course AMC said they didn’t have the budget. It’s a real shame the way they handled the situation.

Oh I definitely agree it was a significant loss when Darabont left, but I love the idea of an on-going story about the apocalypse. It is one of the few examples I think it is really interesting to what what happens next to a character and very suited to the style of television.

It is a shame that a network with a television show that successful is limiting their options.
