Have you guys ever seen one of Scorsese’s other lesser-known works “New York, New York” with Robert De Niro and Liza Minnelli?

Yeah, I’ve seen it a few times. While it’s good and features Minnelli in her heyday, I’ve always found it to be a little long. I don’t mean to denegrate it, it’s just not amongst my favorite of Scorsese’s films.
How does it rank for you?

I liked New York, New York, and you’re right about Minnelli being in top form. My issue with it is that Scorsese’s characters were a little too rough around the edges. Scorsese (particularly coming after Taxi Driver) always presented his characters as flawed, and I think that dynamic (while fascinating) was a little too “real” for a musical. Could you see Astaire and Rogers going at each other’s throats in their movies?
