Hands down the Matrix pairing for huge letdown. The first movie nobody expected it to be worth watching (another cyberpunk movie with Keanu?) and it blew everyone away. Then the second one, they didn’t share anything in interviews and kept it all hush hush building up the anticipation and it just klunked. At least with Phantom Menace we knew there’d be crap in it (Jar Jar from the trailers). Spider-Man 3 you knew would be weak because Marvel forced Raimi to include Venom (such a lame villain).

By the way… How about Southland Tales. HUGE bummer for me. I was so excited for Kelly’s follow up to Donnie Darko, and it had SMG, The Rock, Jon Lovitz, John Larrequette, and more great overlooked actors and it just stunk so bad.

I personally can tolerate The Matrix Reloaded (it pushes my limits), but I hated Revolutions. I can handle Reloaded if I don’t think of it as a Matrix film.

I disagree about Phantom Menace, I think it was the most highly anticipated movie of all time. Unless you saw it well after it was released and the buzz was going, I don’t think people expected Jar Jar to be a joke.

As far as Spider-Man 3 goes, I’m fine with Venom, I like the idea of someone who is somewhere between good and evil, but I think that story arc should not have been done in one movie. Emo Spider-Man was what really ruined the movie.

Totally agree with you thought about Southland Tales, ugh, what a mess. I think it is virtually unwatchable honestly. Richard Kelly’s career amazes me…he seems like he has some much talent, but with the exception of Donnie Darko he doesn’t seem like he can channel it correctly. I think he needs outside intervention…that is why the theatrical cut of Darko is better than the director’s cut.

My biggest letdown for me was “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues” from 1994. You got Gus Van Sant as director coming off of “Drugstore Cowboy” and “My Own Private Idaho”, you had Uma Thurman playing the main character as the hitchhiker with big thumbs, an all-star cast, and it was based on a best-selling book by Tom Robbins.

So when it came out, this movie completely stunk. It barely compares to the book, Uma was really horrible and much of the cast like John Hurt, Lorraine Bracco and Sean Young were completely wasted. I need to stay away from it at all costs. Thank goodness Van Sant bounced back with “To Die For”.

I’ve never seen it, and under normal circumstances I would say I will check it out…but given the topic, I think it is probably best to just say thank you for saving me the time.

I knew he was going to be for kids the moment I saw the teaser trailer where he bends over and gets zapped by the electricity in the podracer. Woof. I didn’t realize he’d be as bad as he was though when I saw the whole movie

I admit the Indy film blew, but I can’t believe Phantom Menace isn’t taking the first spot. Also, I can’t even think about Spiderman 3 without feeling physically ill for actually paying to see it.

I’m with you Amie. I was totally let down by Indiana Jones, but the build up to Phantom Menace was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I will say that I was more disappointed while watching Indy for the first time than Phantom Menace, but I wasn’t as excited about it as I was Phantom Menace.

Spider-Man 3 was a huge disappointment, but while I very much enjoyed Spider-Man 2 I’m not as huge a fan as most people seem to be, so the letdown wasn’t quite as large there.
